Wednesday, July 20, 2016, Hike -- . Middle Prong Trail to Indian Flat Falls, GSMNP, Townsend, TN

This is a moderate 8 mile in and out hike with a 1140’ elevation gain. The Middle Prong Trail rises gently on a wide, packed gravel path beside Lynn Camp Prong to Lynn Camp Prong Falls, which pour down a long, sloping rock slab. There are equally scenic cascades along the way. You may still be able to see the old Cadillac and a chimney left from an old homestead not far from the trail. The Indian Flat Falls is comprised of 4 medium-size drops accessible by an unmarked spur off the Middle Prong Trail. Each features an pool ideal for swimming, wading, and finding salamanders. Depart from the Crossville Outlet Mall west parking lot at 7:30am CT. Carpool cost $8. After the hike, we will decide on stopping for dinner on the way back to Crossville. Photos: Clark
