Wednesday, March 22, 2017, Hike -- Old Settlers Trail, Great Smoky Mt National Park Greenbrier Area Outside of Gatlinburg

This is a 5 to 6 mile one-way hike rated moderate+ due to 900' elevation gain over 2 miles to Copeland Divide before a loss of 600' down to Greenbrier. We will leave a car at Greenbrier trailhead and do this as a car shuttle going in a manway at Steiner Bell Lodge retreat. Along this trail you will see chimneys, crumbling rock walls, as well as other signs from former home sites along the trail, spring wildflowers, location where Partontown and home site of Dolly Parton’s great aunt were, Parton Cemetery, and Lindsey Cemetery. There are several creek crossings so be prepared for water crossings if the water levels are up that day. Depart at 7:30am CT from Crossville Outlet Center on Interstate Drive. Carpool cost $10. We will decide whether to stop at a restaurant on the way back as long as we can return to Crossville by 5:00pm CT. Photos: Clark
