Wednesday Hike(4 22)--Fiery Gizzard

Wednesday's hike(s) will be Fiery Gizzard...the usual 10 mi hike we have done before and a 13 mi car shuttle hike alternative. Both hikes will be difficult due to elevation change and a lot of rock stepping in the case of the 10 mi hike. Both hikes take a lot of time. In the past my time estimates have been off significantly. The finishing time for the 13 mi hike is more uncertain because none of us have done it before. If you haven't done either hike, do the 10 miler. It has the best reputation for wildflowers. We'll meet at American Legion at 6:45 and load 13 and 10 mi hikers into separate cars.I would guess the 10 mi group will be back around 6 plus or minus an hour. The 13 mi hikers may not be much later but since none of us have done the hike, who am I to say? Figure $8 for gas.

One more issue for the 13 mi hikers....There is a stream crossing at the 10 mi of the hike, a point of no return. Bill Harris will ask a ranger if this is likely to be a hazard after all the rain we have had.
