Perhaps you will be amused by my snake misadventure. I nearly stepped on the snake in the sidebar. His head lacked the sharp triangular shape associated w/ venomous snakes and his pupils, while not horizontal, didn't look vertical to me. Most important, my color blind eyes didn't see the copper color. So, I concluded he was a relatively harmless northern water snake(we have plenty of them) and i ran for my camera. I got his attention and layed down for a low camera angle and took the shots in this album. Once i displayed the photos on my computer, Sue saw the copper coloration and I noticed the viper ''pits'' in front of his eyes. I confirmed w/ a couple more knowlegable friends that he was a copperhead who apparently took pity on my color perception disability and didn't strike. Had he been so inclined, i would have been an easy mark lying on my stomach only a couple feet away with only a camera to fend him off. I guess there is a message here somewhere!
